devolpment, pre production, production, post production, and distribution
Development is the first thing to to do in the film/tv industry. This stage is essentially where the core of the show or film takes its shape. After developing the story a lot of screen writers the step afterwards is to write the scene by scene for the whole movie. A lot of writers will use index cards for every single scene. This makes it easier to rearrange. The step after this is to write the screen play. As soon as you have a strong image of the story structure then you should start writing the screenplay. The next step is probably the most painful for any film maker especially independent film makers. This is financing the movie. There are different ways of making a budget for a film is. 'The studio model" The strategy is to make a few films of the same genre, and then approach investors with the films. With this what you are trying to do is proving that you carry a lot of creativity and original ideas can make the buyers give you money to produce. Another way for funding a film to is to get it from government funding. Every year tens of millions get pumped into the film industry in Britain. The public money is currently coming from the BFI.
BFI finances budget to filmmakers. You can apply for the budget and wait for the outcome.
Another new way of budgeting a film is crowd funding. Before 2011 crowd funding wasn't really a big thing until campaigns on kick-stater would raise over $100,000. The strategy is to produce a pitch on the kick-starter website and hope people find a interest in your production.
The alternative route is to make a film that is self financed. Self financed films means that you wont have to bother with investors but you will have to take caution spending the money as it yours that you are spending. No contracts have to be made so you can produce and make films whenever you want without having a buyer over your head.
Now that you have finished the development its time to pre produce. This is the stage where you should plan and make designs to prepare for the production of the movie. The most important thing is to see through all the risk assessment's. Go to all the locations that you need check that there is no hazards a risk assessment document should be made.also also check that there are no copy right issues in your film. Making up a schedule for the filming will come in handy when producing the film. Story boards should be getting sketched up. Everything that you need in to movie like costumes, set, locations, props, music and sound. At this stage the the cast and crew are also recruited. You should use excel to create a database of what you need so you can highlight what you've done and work on what you haven't done. Finding camera equipment and crew can be expensive for a black magic camera it would cost $45.00 for three days.
https://www.lensrentals.com/rent/video/cameras/blackmagic/blackmagic-pocket-cinema-camera. Actors can also be very costly.
This included location manager, production manager, the casting director, the director of photography, the sound designer, art director, composer, the actors, the choreographer and the Director. Storyboards are good for film-making because you can create it shot by shot. The more information you add the better. You don't nee d to be an artist to create a storyboard but each drawing should be readable. The main part of pre production is to time a shooting order. Doing this will save a lot of time this includes; location, weather, the time of day that you want to film and other things you want to add, little or small. Organizing locations will save you a lot of time because you wont have to go back and forth to different scenes.
Your film is going to need music. Pre production is a really good start to looking for music for you film. Having your own original soundtrack is gonna make your movie stand out from the other
s. You can find musician's either locally or on websites.
Creating posters for your film will make suspense for your film, it will also advertise your film before its even out.
The next step in film-making is production before this you should double check that all you preproduction is all set up. Firstly make a checklist of all the things you need. Always look after your actors, be very organised have chairs, snacks on set a long day of filming can be for tiring. Roughly a full days work of filming will only create about 3 minutes of footage used in the film. When you are shooting a scene you should start with the most difficult shot then work your way down to the easier shots. Having a photographer on set to get some behind the scenes shots. the more people you have making the film the better the produce will be which means more people will watch it which = £££.
Get one of the crew member to take a few snaps on their phone of the shoot. If you can share that quick photo up on Facebook the more people will see what you're getting up to. When you're in production you should always be checking up on your budget the last thing you want to do is be in the middle of making a movie and run out of money. Always expect the unexpected you could be filming at a location that's prohibited. Then you can get kicked off the location for security. Always have backups for locations, actors ect. Also whilst filming you should never delete a shot even if you think it was a miss recording.
Now you have filmed your video the next part is post production. You should start this by reviewing all your footage, making sure you got every shot exactly the way you wanted and needed. After you review them you are ready to save them into files, make sure each shot is numbered in order. And do not delete any of the footage even if you think its an accidental recording. You should check over the footage with someone else having that other person can help pick out mistakes ect. Marking files could come in handy, for example if you have a good shot highlight that file green, if you have a okay shot highlight that yellow, if you have a bad/unusable shot highlight that file red. You should either use final cut pro or Adobe Premiere to edit your film. there are complex editing software's. Now its time for the editing, first of all you should edit your clips in high definition, these files will take up more memory but it will boost the quality of your video and it will make it look professional
add the music to your video make sure it all fits aesthetically perfect, add the intro possibly the film title and then add the credits the credits should consist of actors, and everyone who was in help of making the film everyone to the director to the costume and prop designers. Having a original intro will be very cool. After the sound mixing is all up to perfect standards the next step is to finish off your editing making sure it is everything you wanted make sure nothing is forgotten and you're happy with your end product that you have worked very hard on.
The final step is to release and promotion after all that hard work is exported, you can finally finish you're marketing materials. You can make a start by advertising your video, you can be clever about this, for example if your video is a horror you can advertise your video at a rock festival. You can also make some high resolution screen shots that have come from the film with a short synopsis of the film. Create a premiere event, having this will make a big hype for your film. Also throwing a premiere is a really good way to thank you to your cast and crew for the hard work they put into the film. Another good way to promote is to get yourself to a film festival where you can show your film to other film makers.
The production I have decided to base on is movie production. The difference between planning between films and TV. Firstly a films have a lot more time put into the development of the script . Majority of big budgeted TV shows don't start off with high end actors. As big budgeted movies do. #
Step two. Is to manage the time of the whole project. This can be planned using Microsoft excel. Managing time is key making a film. It is very important that a production is fully made on the deadline that it is given. Making a document is good because when you have finished the job you can highlight it so you know its finished. Also you know when certain things have to be finished by.

This is a risk assessment we need risk assessments to prevent people from getting injured, ill or even killed. It has to be carried out by law in a workplace. Although if your workplace has less than 5 employees nothing has to written down. Accidents at work can ruin lives and effect financially. Some work places are checked by health and safety authorities to see if everything is up to standards. Not only are Risk assessments for law but they are also for Moral and Ethical reasons, making a risk assessment implies what you have record will help employers prevent injuries and illnesses at work. Employers should be doing all they can to stop their employees from being in an accident, getting ill or even dying.
A call sheet schedule should be produced for crew members and actors to make sure that the people needed turn up on the right day an example of a call sheet I made is below. It should contain things like phone numbers of crew members, the schedule for the full day, the address of the location of the scene. They should also consist of information for the weather and where the local restaurants are. They are really important for you crew members if they don't have a call sheet they might not show up to the set and that's loosing you money.

Script writing is major for the process of pre production. The script writers will team up with the director of the movie and they will make a combined dialogue for the actors who will be filmed on set. It important that the script is written at the early stage of pre production not only does it give the actors more time to practice their lines but once its done it doesn't have to be re arranged unless the director or creator decides to change it.
Story boards are a graphic organizer with drawings, that are put into a sequence of motion there is usually text at the bottom of each drawings saying what is happening in the frame. Storyboards are vital for pre production work they are used to show your story and how it unfolds frame by frame. I have made an example of a hand drawn story board. The idea of story boards was made at Walt Disney productions in the 1930's

I have chose to make a movie production rather than a TV show production. The planning is different movies have better quality issues that need finesse touches. Movies need a lot more crew members to help produce. Averagely the time it takes to make a TV episode for The Good Wife can be made within 2 days. Movie features with the same production value can take up to 10 days or more. Movies tend to spend more money on actors so being a actor scout will be harder for movies than TV shows. Script writing for a movie will also take a lot more time to do averagely a movie goes on for 130 minutes were as TV shows go on for 30-45 minutes and even some are 60 minutes per episode.
